RV Macerator Pump Operation, Amperage Draw & Discharge Flow Rates
Waste macerator pumps, such as the FloJet 18555-000A and Thetford Sanicon Turbo series, replace conventional 3-inch gravity dump hoses with high-velocity electric rotary shredder blades. Powered by a heavy-duty permanent magnet 12V DC motor, these units draw between 12 and 15 continuous amps under peak torque conditions when grinding solid black waste and cellulose fibers. The high-speed cutter impeller spins at approximately 3,000 RPM, pulverizing solids to particles smaller than 1/8 inch before ejecting the effluent through a 0.75-inch or 1.0-inch diameter line.
Because macerator motor coils generate significant heat, operators must observe the manufacturer-specified 15-minute maximum duty cycle. Extended runs beyond 15 continuous minutes without fluid coolant will trip the internal thermal overload switch or blister the rubber impeller. For extended discharge distances exceeding 50 feet, flow velocity declines from 14.0 GPM down to 8.5–10.0 GPM due to hydraulic friction head loss.

Potable water system decontamination is mandatory following winter storage or extended dormancy to eradicate bacterial biofilm, Giardia cysts, and algae. The standard procedure mandates establishing a 50 PPM available chlorine concentration throughout the plumbing network:
Mix 4.0 fluid ounces of standard 6% unscented household bleach per 50 gallons of water capacity. Pre-dilute the measured bleach into a one-gallon bucket of water before pouring into the gravity water fill. Fill the potable tank with water, pressurize the system with the 12V water pump, and open every hot and cold faucet until a distinct chlorine aroma is detected. Let the solution dwell in closed lines for a minimum of 4 hours (or 12 hours for a 25 PPM concentration) before performing two complete potable rinse cycles.
